If you are struggling with panic, anxiety, obsessions (OCD) or fears, the physical affects can be debilitating and frightening. Depression may make it difficult to participate in life. Perhaps you find yourself in difficult relationships at work or at home. Or perhaps you are dealing with gender identity confusion, trauma, abuse or relationship problems. If you are suffering with one or more of these problems, I have the training and experience to help you journey through these difficult issues. My approach to therapy is to honor and respect your feelings and thoughts as we journey together on a path toward healing and happiness for you. In a caring and safe environment, we build our therapeutic relationship, you are respected without judgment and we work together to meet your therapeutic goals.
I utilize various therapeutic approaches, providing clients with the most appropriate method for the individual. I am trained in and utilize experiential, existential, person-centered, cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approaches, among others.
There are many forms of anxiety. Chronic worry can be debilitating and can impact your social lilfe, relationships, sleep, joy, and overall function. Obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors can takeover and become debilitating. Panic disorder can create frightening physical symptoms such as racing heartbeat, shortness of breath, nausea, and dizziness.
Depression can cause feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, exhaustion, can lead to substance abuse, self-loathing, strained relationships and suicidal thoughts or behaviors. Together we can work through these struggles on a caring and supportive therapeutic journey.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, depression, and a sense of hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger after traumatic events. If you struggle with this, it can effect your relationships, cause addictive behaviors and lead to isolation. You can begin to overcome these symptoms as we work through the process of grief and healing.
If you are struggling with gender or sexual identity issues and are challenged by social judgment or bias, I want to help you. You may be ostracized by your family or friends and may feel lonely, depressed, or isolated. Many LGBT clients face self-loathing, fears, withdrawal, relationship issues and other difficulties. In some cases, the person is unsure of his or her sexual or gender identity. The suicide rate is significantly higher in the LGBT community when compared to the general community and exponentially higher if the person's family turns them away. If you are struggling with these issues, you may be at significant risk and we can work together to help you on your journey toward self love and healing.
In addition to earning my master's degree in mental health counseling and Delaware state licensure, I was personally trained for 5 years in treating mental health disorders by Diane Peters Mayer, LSW who is a nationally recognized expert in the treatment of anxiety and has written many books on the subject. I am specifically trained and experienced in treating the following:
